"Dollar Princess" NO. 1 in Dollar Princess trilogy set to come out by the end of this year

Maria C. Bay Bruun
Maria C. Bay Bruun has been a daydreamer ever since she was born and a storyteller ever since she learned how to write.
Maria has long been interested in history. She is particularly interested in the untold parts of history; women's stories.
She writes novels of young women learning to let go of the expectations of society and instead forge their own path. Included in her novels are also (hopefully) swoony love interests as well as a deep love of nature.
Maria takes a different approach to the historical romance genre. In her novels she includes coming of age stories for her female protagonists. Rather than the stereotypical brooding love interests she likes to write gentlemen of various walks of life.
When she's not writing or editing her debut novel you can find her sitting in cozy cafes sipping on a steamy mug of tea or in a forest listening to the sounds of nature.

AUTHOR Q&A

I've been a lover of telling stories all my life. I can however narrow it down to one specific moment. I had written a short story as an assignment for school. It had been on a subject that greatly interested me and therefore I had taken special care in constructing it. After handing it in my teacher at the time had thought it so good, that she read it aloud to the entire class. It was from then on I dared believe that I had a talent for writing and from then on becoming an author became my dream, because I dared set my heart on it.

It's a simple, but powerful one:
"Write the book you want to read" - Toni Morrison.

As you can probably guess what inspires me the most is women's history - the untold stories of the past. Another thing though which also influences my writing greatly is my love of nature. Of course something else that inspires me is also my love of romance; I'm a hopeless romantic at heart.

I'm planning on self-publishing Dollar Princess. When you publish traditionally the publishing house takes ownership of the rights to your novel. This means that you as the author no longer own the book you have written. I just can't bear the thought of not owning something I've worked so hard to create. That's why I'm going to self-publish.

DOLLAR PRINCESS Q&A

In short Dollar Princess centers around a young girl named Amelia Rose Maxwell who is fighting for her destiny and ability to love who she wants in 19th century America.

I've always been fascinated by different times in history, however it was when reading classics and historical novels that I truly found my love for the 19th century. In particular the novel "Anne of Green Gables" where Anne forges her own path in the world inspired me to write Dollar Princess. I became interested in exploring what it was like for women then to create their own destinies, rather than follow suit with what society expected them to do.

For a long time I had the puzzle pieces of what I wanted my novel to contain, I just didn't have the full picture of the puzzle in order to see what I was striving for. Through trial and error and reading a plethora of historical fiction I finally found out what I wanted my story to revolve around. I hate to sound cliche but it really was a moment of the story suddenly clicking for me

I came up with the concept for my novel before finding out that it was an event which had actually taken place in real life, so discovering the Dollar Princess phenomenon, which fitted perfactly with the plot for my novel, was definitely the most interesting.
